Luke 22:28-30 (ESV)
You are those who have stayed with me in my trials, and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Jesus gave the apostles a title – not kings or rulers or princes, though they would be children of The King. Right after explaining that the greatest are the ones who serve, Jesus gave his disciples the title of “joint heirs” to the kingdom of heaven. Romans 8:17 says, “and if children, then heirs — heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.” (ESV)
What an amazing picture of both our present and future glory! I am a child of the King, brother of Jesus Christ, by His decree. And with all the pomp and circumstance of one who has just been knighted, I will take seriously my conferral, and will serve Him eternally.
Wow, Lord! Your Word is astounding! Thank You for this lesson to Your servant. I will serve today for Your glory, the glory of my King!
